Staying Out Of The Dungeon

Mimi, Queen of Meme's has tagged me with Trav's Staying Out of The Dungeon Trivia Meme. And me being the bright person that I am... will do this meme to the best of my ability because Mimi really does have a dungeon.

I saw it.
It was scary.

Here are the instructions for Trav's Staying Out Of The Dungeon Trivia Meme:
He said: A meme needs 'structions. OK...here's your 'structions:

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to:

1. Choose a category from one of these: Television, Stage & Screen, Nightly News, Publishing, Lives & Times, Music.

2. Find 8 bits of trivia about your selected category.

3. Be sure to let Mimi know when...ok, if... you decide to play along so I can see what you come up with.

4. You may tag, or simply offer the meme for borrowing or stealing as you like.

I chose the category MUSIC with a theme of "One Hit Wonders".
A One Hit Wonder is generally considered a song that reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 by a performer who recorded only one song.
I've also added the play list for your listening pleasure :D

#1. My first pick (an obvious choice) is "We're Not Gonna Take It" by none other than.... Twisted Sister.
"We're Not Gonna Take It" is a 1984 hit song from their album Stay Hungry. The single reached #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

(I'd like to dedicate this song to my twisted sister and former co-author of this blog... Ann. In anger and despair we began this blog together.)

"we've Got The Right To Choose And
there Ain't No Way We'll Lose It
this Is Our Life, This Is Our Song
we'll Fight The Powers That Be Just
don't Pick Our Destiny 'cause
you Don't Know Us, You Don't Belong
oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore"

#2. "More Than Words" - a power ballad written and originally performed by rock band Extreme. It entered the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 81 and soon after reached number one.

"All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know"

#3. "Tainted Love" - Released in 1981, Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" was a number-one hit in seventeen countries, including the United Kingdom, as well as a number eight single in the United States during 1982.
"Once I ran to you
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...tainted love"

#4. Tubthumping" is a song by the English band Chumbawamba. The single release went to UK #2 and US #6 in the single charts in 1997. Everyone loved this song... It was difficult to understand the lyrics, but one lyric that did stand out was “pissing the night away.”

"I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
Pissing the night away"

#5. “Nothing Compares 2 U” - Sinead O’Connor (1990). One of the most famous love ballads of all time, this single topped the charts worldwide, including the UK, United States and Australia. It peaked at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

"It's been seven hours + fifteen days
since u took your love away
I go out every night + sleep all day
since u took your love away"

#6. The 1982 hit "Mickey" by singer and choreographer Toni Basil reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number two in the UK singles chart. This one-hit wonder is one of the most famous cheerleading songs.

"Oh Mickey, you're so fine
You're so fine you blow my mind
Hey Mickey, hey Mickey"

#7. "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by musician Bobby McFerrin. In 1988 it became the first a cappella song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was included in the soundtrack of the movie "Cocktail", and became a hit single the following year.

"Here is a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry be happy"

#8. "Torn" - Natalie Imbruglia (1998). "Torn" remains one of my all time favorite pop songs.
Released in 1997, the single quickly hit #1 on the Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart, where it stayed for 14 weeks. Rick Dees in his Top 40 Chart show also declared Torn as the 'number one radio single of 1990s' in their 2000 Millennium Countdown show.

"I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
You're a little late, I'm already torn"

Great idea, Dawn. I've always loved
Extreme's "More Than Words" but "Don't Worry, Be Happy" sends me right into a fit of allergies. It grates on my nerves worse than Alice Cooper Thanks!! Now it will be rummaging through my pencil brain for the rest of the night.

Sigh.
I have hives!!
