Reflections: Top Ten List of Year-End Questions

I was tagged with the following meme by Carol @ My View of "It"... In order to embrace the new, we must release the old. I want you (and me) to reflect upon what you did, how you felt, what you liked, what you didn't and what you learned.

... and Carol I have to tell you it's harder than I thought... so here goes:

1. What did I learn? (skills, knowledge, awareness, etc.)
To accept the things I cannot freakin' change and the wisdom to know the freakin' difference.

2. What did I accomplish?
I started writing articles. Then I started a blog. I made many blog friends. Now I torture them with my posts.

3. What would I have done differently?
Nothing. I don't have time for regrets.

4a. What did I complete or release?

Guilt.... Thanks to Ruby for encouraging me to let it go and to write the hardest post I have ever written - Emotion In Motion.

b. What still feels incomplete to me?
Unresolved personal issues and I think I may need some anger management ;-)

5. What were the most significant events of the year past? List the top three.
1. My daughter's Runway Debut.
2. Another death in the family.
3. My daughter joined the Canadian Army Reserves and made it through basic training.

6a. What did I do right?
Supported my daughter in all her decisions and continue to guide her the best that I can.

b. What do I feel especially good about?
Knowing that I raised a good kid who is off to college next fall to pursue a career in Advertising Design.

c. What was my greatest contribution?
Being a support to my family in whatever capacity necessary. Most recently waiting in hospitals and doctor's offices while my niece underwent a battery of tests.

7a. What were the fun things I did?

I went swimming with the dolphins... took a Caribbean Cruise AND flew to Paris for the weekend. Naaawww... I'm just kidding.
Fun is not in my budget. Unless you count the time I climbed the side of a cliff to get pictures of the ice bergs off Quidi Vidi... and I'm not sure if that was fun or just plain stupid. Decide for yourself... Click Here.

b. What were the not-so-fun?
Attending another funeral. Waiting on a diagnosis for my 17 year old niece.

8. What were my biggest challenges/roadblocks/difficulties?
Keeping the men in white coats away and not ending up on a psych ward :))))

9. How am I different this year than last?
A freakin' year older and a freakin' year wiser.

10. For what am I particularly grateful?
Laughter. You people have no idea how many times I sit alone at my desk laughing like a lunatic at your blog posts!
Keep em comin'!!!

I believe that the single most important job of a parent is to raise a child to stand on their own two feet. Looks like you've done a great job of it!

"1. My daughter's Runway Debut."

Your daughter learned to fly a plane?? :0)

I enjoyed your list, Dawn. As someone else said, you sound like a great mom. In a way it's exciting to watch a child take their first steps into adulthood. It's also scary as hell!

Oh, and thanks for the tag. I'll get even...er, I mean I'll respond in the next few days.

Yes you did warn me...:):) and I accept ..I can see the difficulty so give me a day or two to let it rik-oshay...Your list confirmed in many ways..what I thought..your a wonderful mother and a hell of a human being...and a your a keeper Dawn Drover (highest redneck praise there is...:):):)..)..and your post Emotion In Motion brought a little tear (that will ruin my image again) that must have been an ordeal to write and post ..It took amazing strength to do that...and your emotions and feelings through that struck very close to home...

Forest - I hear you. I'm just getting back into the swing of things too.

Lee - Very scary. You just want so much more for them and you want so bad to get them through the teen years without screwing it up!

Robert - thank you. I cannot stress how difficult it was... emotionally draining.
